Romero and Santa Cruz big winners in primary election

City Councilwoman Regina Romero and Ward 1 city council candidate Lane Santa Cruz were victorious in Tuesday night’s preliminary primary election results and if their high percentage leads hold, they are likely to win in November unless there’s a drastic shift in independent and Republican voter turnouts.

The Democrat candidates swept their party’s primary with Romero leading by 12% of the vote and Santa Cruz by 23%.

Santa Cruz formerly worked in the Ward 1 office under Romero who was elected to office in 2007 and will now face off against Independent candidate Ed Ackerly for Tucson mayor on November 5.
